combesrenaud: Paris, France; Marie Combes & Patrick Renaud Photo and Video Creators Living and working in Paris, France We have been doing work together since 1997, and have developed joint experience and practice. Our work roves through the crossroads and over the borders of photography and video. We have been involved in joint research on diptychs, which each of us has developed in a series of photos, « Intérieurs » (Interiors) and « Sols » (Grounds). These were undertaken respectively in 1988 and 1990, working around the physical separation of the images on the negative film. Our diptychs introduce action and time, prefiguring our videos. The work on diptychs involves more than duality, a movement between dual images and a transient emptiness. Two images are the beginning of a sequence, a fraction of 24 images per second. Two photos also symbolise the leap from one work to the next. The sequence of photos is used as a substitute for a video recording, and brings another perception of time.
