Nature of John Maeda

John Maeda is the pioneer of digital graphic design and the greatest designer, teacher, and artist in the digital field today (he is a professor at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology and President of the Rhode Island School of Providence). Marrying art and science with great genius, he now imagines a new, deeper, more human link with computers.

The catalog of the exhibition John Maeda, Nature, presented at the Fondation Cartier in 2005, reveals a series of previously unseen works founded on a humanist conception of the computer tool. As an advocate of a sensitive, instinctive approach to technology, John Maeda portrays the digital space in the spirit of a landscape painting. Realized with a new technology which he invents “to paint in space and time,” his “digital landscapes” pave the way for the post-digital era.
